Meet Tejasi,
Special Needs Volunteer!

Why did you choose to volunteer at The Connection/become a part of The Connection community?
I have chosen to become a part of The Connection community because it seemed so sincere with whatever it was doing (And it very much is, I can confirm after volunteering here). Whenever we are volunteering, the kids we’re working with are always #1, and that clearly shows whenever I’m there. It’s really awesome.

How have you seen lives/the community impacted because of your efforts?
I’ve had some kids continuously throughout the sessions, and some kids only for one day, but whenever I’ve tried working with them, I’ve always strived to earn their trust first. It’s great to see kids opening up and becoming more relaxed, realizing they’re in a safe environment, and it’s even better when you’re a part of that.

How has your life changed by volunteering?
I’ve learned to be more open-minded. Different kids are at different stages of their lives, and it was important for me to learn that I had to adjust myself for every level and try my best for every child.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering at The Connection?
DO IT. It’s worth it, and sort of life-changing, not to be dramatic. The Connection has made me realize how much I love to help people, and for that, I am thankful.

Anything else you’d like us to know about your experience?
Working with the kids has been a true privilege, and I hope I can continue to impact lives in any way I can.
