Lifeguard

The Connection in Summit is seeking Lifeguards to join our team. In this position you will:

  • Monitor swimming areas and aids and protection to users of the pool and aquatic facility
  • Ensure the safety of patrons of the aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies as a lifeguard.
  • Supervise and guard the pool and aquatic facility and ensures participants adhere to all Connection aquatic guidelines and procedures.
  • Always presents professional appearance and attitude and maintains a high standard of customer service.
Requirements
  • Lifeguard Certification
  • First Aid and CPR certified
  • Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aide effectively.
Hours

Monday – Friday 7am – 8pm (subs needed occasionally)

Saturday and Sunday – 7am – 5pm (weekend availability needed)

Swim Instructor

The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking experienced swim instructors to join our team. In this position:

  • You will be responsible for teaching safe pool and water practices to each student while instructing swimming skills and techniques in a manner which is both beneficial and safe.
  • You will ensure the safety and well-being of all class and program participants during youth and/or adult classes.
Requirements
  • Experience teaching swim classes. Must be comfortable with teaching all age groups.
  • Lifeguard/CPR/AED required.
  • Will be required to take on lifeguarding shifts.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.
Hours

Weekdays from 3:30pm-6:30pm and Saturdays from 9am-12pm

Compensation
  • $20.00 per hour for group swim lesson

Water Exercise Instructor

The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking an experienced Water Exercise Instructor to join our team. In this position:

  • You will provide a challenging exercise routine in either deep or shallow water that utilizes all major muscle groups in the body and challenges the cardiovascular system.
  • You will instruct the water exercise class in accordance with course description and curriculum goals established by Aquatics Director.
  • Instruct each class participant in a way that he/she understands the class format and is exercising in a manner that is both beneficial and safe.
Qualifications
  • Experience teaching water exercise classes
  • First Aid and CPR required. Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aide effectively
  • Lifeguard Certification preferred

Our current need is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am -11am (two 45-minute classes) with extra hours as a substitute available.

Adult Dance Instructor
The Connection is a non-profit, women-led organization dedicated to enhancing lives and fostering community.

The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is searching for highly motivated and enthusiastic Adult Dance Teacher. In this role, you will:

  • Instruct evening adult dance program classes in accordance with course description and curriculum using proper terminology and accurate verbal & physical representation.
  • Create a fun and safe learning environment for the students.
  • Responsible for being prepared for each class with appropriate instructional materials.
  • Make recommendations regarding ordering of any equipment and/or supplies needed as well as in the design and content of new and current classes.

Member Services Representative, Part Time
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ is seeking a reliable part time Member Services Representative. As a part of the member services team, you will work as registrar, cashier and receptionist while providing excellent customer service. You will provide information to members, volunteers and the public on The Connection activities and programs.

Qualifications
  • Ability to multi-task and solve problems independently
  • Excellent phone demeanor and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude
  • Customer service experience is required. Previous/current work in a non-profit or fitness center environment is preferred.
  • The Connection uses Daxko operations membership management software. Knowledge of the software is not required but the willingness to learn is.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly desirable

School Bus Driver, Part Time 
The Connection, a leading community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ is seeking a part time school bus driver. In this role, you will transport children to and from local schools during the school year.

Qualifications
  • CDL license with Passenger and School bus endorsements.

  • Valid DOT medical card and physical

Custodial Worker & Bus Aide, Part Time
The Connection, a leading community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking a responsible and reliable Custodial Worker & Bus Aide.

Responsibilities and Qualifications
  • Is responsible for maintenance and cleanliness of total building. This includes sweeping, dry or wet mopping, trash removal, cleaning of men/women’s rooms, etc..
  • Sets up class and meeting rooms (tables, chairs, blackboards, audio/visual, etc.). Reports any problem that may have occurred to the Director of Operations and Facilities Management.
  • Working knowledge of general cleaning operations and methods, cleaning equipment and cleaning chemicals and their safe application as stated on product labeling.
  • Basic knowledge of facility maintenance (i.e. painting, simple plumbing, changing lighting, etc.).
  • Must demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and complete assignments independently with minimum supervision.
  • Assist as a bus aide when required
  • Shows up for work when assigned.
  • This position includes, lifting, bending, stooping, standing, climbing, pulling, and reaching.

The Connection is seeking a joyful community builder to lead our development efforts with industry best practices, and the highest level of integrity and commitment to service. The Director of Development at The Connection is responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and managing fundraising and communication activities to fulfill the organization's mission. This role requires organizational and operational excellence in leading development initiatives. This position supervises the Development Manager, our Grant Writer, and other staff members as required. It includes all other responsibilities that may be necessary to fulfill the duties associated with the position or as may be assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications
  • High level of integrity, joyful approach to fundraising, driven to make a difference.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, development, or related roles.
  • Experience in the cultivation of donors and securing major gifts.

  • Strong communication, public speaking, relationship-building, and organizational skills as demonstrated by work products.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as a team member.

Social Service Coordinator, Part Time
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking a part time Social Service Coordinator to work with our afterschool enrichment programs. The ideal candidate has experience developing and implementing activities and events that strengthen and promote student and family success for participants in after school programs.

Responsibilities
  • Develops, implements and participates, in conjunction with Site Directors and the Director of Enrichment Programs, age appropriate educational, enrichment, recreational and social services for students and families.
  • Plans, develops and implements family activities and workshops for program participants on relevant topics with input from caregivers, the Director of Enrichment Programs and staff.
  • Visits sites regularly and serves as a staff back-up in order to develop relationships with students and speak with caregivers when needed, as well as to assist Site Directors and Assistant Directors.
  • Maintains appropriate records as required by the Director of Enrichment Programs and/or state funding sources
Requirements

The Social Service Coordinator must maintain strict confidentiality in performing the duties of the position. The Social Service Coordinator must also demonstrate the following:

Afterschool Program Director, Part Time
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking an experienced and responsible Afterschool Program Director. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and management of The Connection Afterschool Program located on-site at a Summit school or at The Connection.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a 5 day afterschool program (2:45pm – 6:00pm) that supports The Connection’s mission and commitment to families.
  • Train, supervise, and support part-time Program Assistants, fill sub assignments for the site when necessary.
  • Create a daily schedule that includes homework help, free time, enrichment, and other activities.
  • Maintains communication with parents of student regarding child’s progress and/or any issues.
  • Attends workshops and trainings to meet licensing requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Teaching, Social Work or related field is preferred
  • Experience managing part time support staff
  • Background in planning fun, engaging activities for elementary aged youth

Afterschool Program Assistant, Part Time
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking an experienced and responsible Afterschool Program Assistant. In this role, you will assist with the management of the after school program.

Requirements
  • Working alongside the After School Director, helps manage a 5 day afterschool program (2:45PM – 6:00PM).
  • Uses positive behavior management strategies to support continued engagement of youth.
  • Assists with daily schedule that includes homework help, free time, enrichment, and other activities as directed.
  • Assists with the supervision of participants. This includes working one on one to provide assistance with an activity.
  • Serves as a substitute bus aide and assists in the safe transportation of children enrolled in The Connection program.
  • Attends training as required.

Gymnastics Coach/Instructor, Part Time
The Connection Gymnastics – Summit Summies Team in Summit, NJ is looking for professional, mature, positive, energetic, and reliable part time Coaches/Instructors to join our growing program. Must work well with other staff members in a team environment. Our program is delivered in a positive and progressive environment. We provide an opportunity for gymnasts of all levels to learn and to develop life skills that will be with them when they leave the gym.

Opportunity to coach USAG levels 3,4,5, 6,7, Xcel Gold, Platinum and Diamond. Depending on interest, experience, knowledge and availability, coaching responsibilities are available as an assistant or in a lead role to continue developing excellence and team growth for all levels. Additional hours are available in the class program.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities and experience may include but are not limited to:

  • Commitment to providing a safe positive environment for all participants.
  • Coaching recreational teams (Xcel), pre team, and competitive development program teams.
  • Working knowledge of USAG WDP levels 3-8, and Xcel program.

The Connection is looking for a dance instructor for preschool and school age classes. In this position, you will be responsible for providing a fun and effective class to members participating in the program. You will teach a dynamic program using the fundamentals of dance.

Previous teaching experience. Additional training will be provided to the right candidate.

Come be part of The Connection’s excellent summer camp program! We are currently looking for Gym Camp Counselors to join us.

As a Camp Counselor you will be responsible for leading an assigned group of children enrolled in the summer camp program. You will ensure each camper has a fun experience in a physically and emotionally safe environment.

Hours and Openings

As a camp counselor you can opt to work a half day – mornings or afternoons, or a full day.

Morning camps run 8:30am – l:30pm, Monday – Friday

The Connection is seeking friendly volunteers to teach English as a Second Language to non-English-speaking adults at The Connection. No prior experience needed, and training and resources provided. This is an excellent way to give back to our community and meet wonderful people from around the world. Minimum time commitment is 2 hours a week.
