Celebrating Wendy Graeb’s Legacy

January 31, 2024

Today marks a bittersweet moment as we bid farewell to our Executive Director, Wendy Graeb, on her last day before retirement. Wendy’s unwavering dedication and passion have been the driving force behind The Connection’s success for nearly three decades.

Wendy’s journey with The Connection began as a dedicated fundraising event volunteer. In 1998, recognizing Wendy’s immense potential, she was invited to join the Board of Trustees. Swiftly rising to the role of Chairwoman in 1999, Wendy played a pivotal role in steering us through one of the most critical changes in our history. It was under her leadership that we decided to disassociate from the National YWCA, transforming into The Connection for Women and Families. This decision was made in part to allow our resources to directly benefit the local area, and for decisions to be fully made by those who know our community best.

After her tenure as a trustee, she served as a campaign consultant for another substantial project- the latest building expansion in the early 2010s which allowed us to increase our footprint and expand our impact.

As Executive Director beginning in 2015, she built up the staff, navigated the organization through a global pandemic and finally–and so deservedly— commemorated the centennial.

Each of these were incredibly challenging but necessary transitions – and every single one of which she helped to make The Connection a more inclusive and welcoming place.

As we express our gratitude for Wendy’s decades of dedication, we wish her a retirement filled with family time, joy, and relaxation. Thank you, Wendy, for leaving an incredible mark on The Connection’s history and for making our community stronger, more equitable, and here for everyone!
