Personal Trainers

The Connection, in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent fitness programs is seeking part-time Personal Trainers to join our team. In this role you will work with members to develop, guide, and monitor their personal fitness goals.

Responsibilities
  • Develops a responsible personal training program for members. Keeps record of members progress and submits paperwork for reimbursement
  • Monitors current members’ progress and gives advice regarding program progression
  • Staff the Fitness floor to monitor members for safety, answer questions and provide floor supervision
Qualifications

Must be certified as a Personal Trainer through a nationally recognized agency and CPR/AED certified.

Hours

Substitute position needed for day/evening and weekend, which could lead to permanent shift as hours expand.

Assistant Aquatics Director, Full-Time

The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs is looking for a full-time Assistant Director who is passionate about Aquatics and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Responsible for assisting with the management and operations of the pool. This includes instruction, recreation, and competitive aquatics programs.
  • Assists Aquatics Director in developing a comprehensive aquatics program, increasing participation in aquatic activities, and growth in membership.
  • Supervises and guides the operation of the pool, lifeguards, and instructors during aquatic programs/activities as assigned by Aquatics Director.
  • Serves as an instructor for designated aquatic classes and lifeguards when needed. Fills in when necessary to ensure the continuation of all programs/activities.
  • Assist Aquatics Director in scheduling and ensuring all staff shifts are properly covered.
  • Comply with all health and safety protocols required by the Department of Health, including, but not limited to, COVID regulations.
Qualifications

  • Applicants should have experience in aquatics supervision/management experience including lifeguarding/coaching/swim instruction and customer service.
  • Red Cross Lifeguarding certificate required and Swim Instructor or Coaching Certification preferred.
  • NSPF Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) are also preferred and will be required within four months of employment.

Lifeguard – we offer paid training to obtain a lifeguard certification

The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking Lifeguards to join our team. In this position:

  • You will monitor swimming areas and provides assistance and protection to users of the pool and aquatic facility
  • You will ensure the safety of patrons of the aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies as a lifeguard.
  • You will supervise and guard the pool and aquatic facility and ensure participants adhere to all Connection aquatic guidelines and procedures.
  • Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
Requirements
  • Lifeguard Certification. The Connection will pay for you to obtain a lifeguard certification. You can register for the class through the Red Cross by going to: https://www.redcross.org/take-a-class/lifeguarding/lifeguard-training/lifeguard-certification From the drop-down menu select Lifeguarding. It will give you options for dates and locations of the course.
  • First Aid and CPR certified. Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.

Swim Instructor

The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking experienced swim instructors to join our team. In this position:

  • You will be responsible for teaching safe pool and water practices to each student while instructing swimming skills and techniques in a manner which is both beneficial and safe.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all class and program participants during youth and/or adult classes.
Requirements
  • Experience teaching swim classes. Must be comfortable with teaching all age groups.
  • Lifeguard/CPR/AED required. Will be required to take on lifeguarding shifts.
  • Must comply with all safety protocols including those regarding precautions for COVID-19
  • Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations to assure the safety of all swimmers.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.

Weekdays from 3:30-6:30p and Saturdays from 9a-12p

Water Exercise Instructor

The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking an experienced Water Exercise Instructor to join our team. In this position:

  • You will provide a challenging exercise routine in either deep or shallow water that utilizes all major muscle groups in the body and challenges the cardiovascular system.
  • You will instruct the water exercise class in accordance with course description and curriculum goals established by Aquatics Director.
  • Instruct each class participant in a way that he/she understands the class format and is exercising in a manner that is both beneficial and safe.
Qualifications
  • Experience teaching water exercise classes
  • First Aid and CPR required. Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aide effectively
  • Lifeguard Certification preferred

Front Desk
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ is seeking a reliable part-time weekend Member Services Representative. As a part of the member services team, you will work as registrar, cashier, and receptionist while providing excellent customer service. You will provide information to members, volunteers, and the public on The Connection activities and programs.

Qualifications
  • Customer service experience is required. Previous/current work in a non-profit or fitness center environment is preferred.
  • The Connection uses Daxko operations membership management software. Knowledge of the software is not required but the willingness and ability to learn it is.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly desirable
  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, must be able to get up and walk from the front desk to the outside of the facility and to remain standing outside as required (as much as 15 minutes at a time) numerous times during a shift to conduct health screenings

Saturdays and Sunday hours are flexible with varied shifts available. Currently open from 7am- 2:00pm on weekends, expanded hours are expected in the near future.

Bus Driver

The Connection, a leading community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ is seeking a part-time school bus driver. In this role, you will transport children to and from local schools during the school year.

Qualifications
  • CDL license with Passenger and School bus endorsements. Will consider applicants who do not have P & S endorsements and will assist in obtaining them.
  • 5 year clean Drivers abstract
  • Valid DOT medical card and physical
  • All applicants for bus driver positions with The Connection are subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol tests.

The position available is part-time following the Summit school district calendar:

  • Morning hours are M-F, 7:30am – 9:00am
  • Afternoon hours are M-F, 2:30pm – 4:00pm

Social Media Coordinator
The Connection, a community-based non-profit in Summit, NJ is looking for an experienced and creative Social Media Coordinator to join their marketing team. The Social Media Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing The Connection’s Social Media strategy in order to increase online presence and improve marketing efforts.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Manages company social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and other relevant platforms.
  • Photographs classes and programs to use on social media.
  • Works with members and staff to create engaging content.
  • Proposes new ideas and concepts for social media content.
  • Works with program directors to create content for blog posts.
  • Shoots and edits promotional videos to use on social media platforms.
  • Organizes and stewards Brand Ambassadors to increase the organization’s online presence in the communities served.
  • Creates content, publishes, and tracks paid advertisements on social media.

Custodial/Building Maintenance
The Connection, a leading community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking a responsible, reliable person to join our Custodial/Building Maintenance team.

Qualifications
  • Responsible for general maintenance and repairs to the facility as needed and assigned such as minor plumbing, minor building repairs, light painting, changing bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, etc. 
  • Responsible for maintenance and cleanliness of the total building. This includes sweeping, dry or wet mopping, trash removal, cleaning of men/women’s rooms, etc.
  • Sets up class and meeting rooms (tables, chairs, blackboards, audio/visual, etc.).
  • Must demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and complete assignments independently with minimum supervision.
  • This position includes lifting, bending, stooping, standing, climbing, pulling, and reaching.

Bus Aide
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking a Bus Aide. You will assist in the safe transportation of children enrolled in The Connection program.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • You will ensure the safety and well-being of children being transported to and from The Connection programs.
  • You will maintain positive behavior of children on the bus and ensure that the bus driver is not distracted from the safe operation of the vehicle.
  • You will help children board the bus safely and supervise them including working one on one when necessary.

The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking a qualified, experienced, and organized After School Site Director. The candidate should have experience supervising and interacting with groups of Elementary-aged youth and planning engaging activities. Additional responsibilities include supervising program assistants, ordering and organizing site supplies, representing the program to the school, and other administrative tasks.

The Connection After School Program offers a daily enrichment-based program for Kindergarten through Fifth Grade youth attending Summit Public Schools. Programs are offered at each of the elementary schools, the early childhood center, as well as at The Connection’s facility.

Youth Specialty Programs Director
The Connection, a community-based non-profit in Summit, NJ is looking for an experienced and creative part-time Youth Specialty Programs Director. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and management of all parent/child, preschool, and school-age youth programming.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Supervises, manages, and develops all youth specialty classes and programs such as sports and fitness, cooking, art, music, STEM-based classes, and birthday parties.
  • Assists with recruitment and then trains and supervises staff for youth specialty programs and birthday parties.
  • Serves as an instructor for designated youth programs and fills in when necessary to ensure the continuation of all programs.
  • Acts as an instructor an average of 45% of the time including possible off-site locations, or during school break sessions and camp.

Enrichment Licensing Coordinator
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking a part-time Enrichment Licensing Coordinator.

Requirements
  • Responsible to obtain and maintain all required licenses according to local state laws for preschool and afterschool programs.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes related to licensing, as well as the process for submitting license applications and paying for licensing fees.
  • Maintain required files for the pre-school and afterschool programs to remain compliant with licensing regulations
  • Serve as point of contact for the Department of Children and Families regarding licenses
  • Provide administrative oversight to ensure accountability and compliance for meeting all licensure requirements.
  • Manage day-to-day procedures to ensure compliance with state regulations.
  • Serve as a substitute in the afterschool program including working one on one with youth to provide assistance with an activity.

Requirements
Dance and beginner through intermediate tumbling teaching experience is required. Additional training will be provided to the right candidate.
