Special Needs Program Director, P/T
The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking experienced Water Exercise instructor to join our team. In this position:
Qualifications
  • Teaching degree in Special Education preferred or equivalent experience required.
  • Experience working with volunteers
Hours
  • Part time position weekend days and two Friday evenings per month (7-8 hours per week).

Maintenance, P/T
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, has several opportunities for responsible, reliable persons to join our Maintenance team. You will be responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of our facility. This includes sweeping, dry or wet mopping, trash removal, cleaning of men/women’s rooms and locker rooms. You will also be responsible to set up and break down class and meeting rooms including any cleaning that may be needed.

Qualifications
  • Must possess a working knowledge of general cleaning operations and methods, cleaning equipment and cleaning chemicals and their safe application as stated on product labeling.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of facility maintenance (i.e. painting, plumbing, lighting, etc.)
  • Must demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and complete assignments with minimum supervision.
  • Must be knowledgeable and demonstrate safe work practices such as preventing trip hazards (cord use on vacuums), correct ladder use in changing light bulbs and cleaning windows, proper warning of wet or waxed floors, etc.
  • Must demonstrate an aptitude and desire to continually improve facility janitorial tasks to reduce costs while keeping the facility clean.
  • This position includes, lifting, bending, stooping, standing, climbing, pulling, and reaching.
Hours
  • Hours include evenings and weekends.
Compensation
  • Starting at $10.00 per hour based on experience.

Water Exercise Instructor, P/T
The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking experienced Water Exercise instructor to join our team. In this position:
Roles and Responsibilities
  • You will provide a challenging exercise routine in either deep or shallow water that utilizes all major muscle groups in the body and challenges the cardiovascular system
  • You will instruct water exercise class in accordance with course description and curriculum goals established by Aquatics Director.
  • Instruct each class participant in a way that he/she understands class format, and is exercising in a manner which is both beneficial and safe.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of all class and program participants.
Requirements
  • Experience teaching water exercise classes
  • First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard Certification.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aide effectively.
Hours
  • Current need – Fridays 9:00am -10:00am

Parent/Child Swim Instructor, P/T
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ has a part time Special Needs Program Director position available. This position is responsible for the development, enhancement, and teaching of recreational and social programs for youth and adults with special needs.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • You will be responsible for teaching safe pool and water practices while instructing swimming skills and techniques.
  • Instruct aquatics class in accordance with course description and curriculum goals established by Aquatics Director; safely utilizing specific equipment.
  • Instruct each class participant in a way that he/she understands class format, and is swimming in a manner which is both beneficial and safe.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of all class and program participants during youth and/or adult classes.
Requirements
  • Experience teaching parent/child swim classes
  • First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard Certification preferred.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aide effectively.
Hours
  • Current need – Saturday amd Sunday 9:00am -10:30am

Lifeguard, P/T
The Connection, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking experienced lifeguards to join our team.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • You will monitor swimming areas and provides assistance and protection to users of the pool and aquatic facility
  • You will ensure the safety of patrons of the aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies as a lifeguard.
  • You will supervise and guard the pool and aquatic facility and ensures participants adhere to all Connection aquatic guidelines and procedures.
  • Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
Requirements
  • First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard Certification.
  • Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations in order to assure the safety of all swimmers.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aide effectively.
Hours
We have a variety of positions available including days (early morning, midday, afternoon), evenings and weekends.
Compensation
  • $10/hour
  • $3 per hour premium offered for shifts worked between 5-8:30am

AfterSchool Program Assistants, P/T
After School Program Assistants. The ideal candidate has experience supervising groups of Elementary-aged youth and planning engaging activities. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the management of the program, building strong relationships with parents and families, and representing The Connection in the community.
Requirements
  • Experience working with groups elementary-aged children;
  • Fun, active, and creative mindset toward working with children;
  • Some experience helping children with tasks, such as homework;
  • Ability to commit to a routine schedule with punctuality;
  • Must be able to provide own transportation.
Hours
  • Monday – Friday, 2:45pm – 6:00pm while school is in session (10 months), following the Summit Public Schools calendar.
  • Opportunity to work in The Connection’s Summer Camp program that runs for nine weeks this summer (June 24 – August 23rd).

Youth Enrichment Instructor, P/T
The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatics, fitness and enrichment programs is looking for PT Youth Instructors to join our team. Each class is offered once a week as part of a full spectrum of enrichment classes. Enrichment classes are 45-minutes or an hour depending on the age group of the students.
Roles and Responsibilities
In this position you will:

      • Enrich the lives of children by delivering engaging, enrichment classes in overall and specific areas within the S.T.E.A.M. arena (STEM, Art, Coding, etc.).
      • Guide students in educational activities designed to promote intellectual, social, and physical growth.
      • Teach students to work individually and collaboratively to solve problems and to think both logically and creatively.
Requirements
      • Dependable, punctual and responsible individual with high energy and a child-friendly persona.
      • Classroom or group management skills, particularly with children.
      • Experience in the instructional subject area.
      • Experience developing age-appropriate enrichment curriculum.
      • Ideal candidates are teachers, former teachers, teacher’s aides and education majors.
      • Current college students are encouraged to apply as this position is an excellent way to gain teaching experience.

Drivers and Cooks for Pathways Cooks
Pathways cooks provides healthy, whole foods meals to women undergoing chemotherapy and their families. Drivers are needed on Wednesdays to deliver meals from 5:30pm – 6:30pm and would require between 30-60 minutes of driving time. Cooking volunteers are needed Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1-3:30 pm. Volunteers are needed to prep, cook, clean up or deliver meals. Two hour shifts or full shifts are both welcome.
