Assistant Aquatics Director, Full-Time

The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs is looking for a full-time Assistant Director who is passionate about Aquatics and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Responsible for assisting with the management and operations of the pool. This includes instruction, recreation, and competitive aquatics programs.
  • Assists Aquatics Director in developing a comprehensive aquatics program, increasing participation in aquatic activities, and growth in membership.
  • Supervises and guides the operation of the pool, lifeguards, and instructors during aquatic programs/activities as assigned by Aquatics Director.
  • Serves as an instructor for designated aquatic classes and lifeguards when needed. Fills in when necessary to ensure the continuation of all programs/activities.
  • Assist Aquatics Director in scheduling and ensuring all staff shifts are properly covered.
  • Comply with all health and safety protocols required by the Department of Health, including, but not limited to, COVID regulations.
Qualifications

  • Applicants should have experience in aquatics supervision/management experience including lifeguarding/coaching/swim instruction and customer service.
  • Red Cross Lifeguarding certificate required and Swim Instructor or Coaching Certification preferred.
  • NSPF Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) are also preferred and will be required within four months of employment.

Lifeguard – we offer paid training to obtain a lifeguard certification

The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking Lifeguards to join our team. In this position:

  • You will monitor swimming areas and provides assistance and protection to users of the pool and aquatic facility
  • You will ensure the safety of patrons of the aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies as a lifeguard.
  • You will supervise and guard the pool and aquatic facility and ensure participants adhere to all Connection aquatic guidelines and procedures.
  • Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
Requirements
  • Lifeguard Certification. The Connection will pay for you to obtain a lifeguard certification. You can register for the class through the Red Cross by going to: https://www.redcross.org/take-a-class/lifeguarding/lifeguard-training/lifeguard-certification From the drop-down menu select Lifeguarding. It will give you options for dates and locations of the course.
  • First Aid and CPR certified. Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.

Weekdays from 6am-8:45pm and Saturdays 7am-2:15pm

Compensation

$13.00 – $14.00 based on experience

Swim Instructor

The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking experienced swim instructors to join our team. In this position:

  • You will be responsible for teaching safe pool and water practices to each student while instructing swimming skills and techniques in a manner which is both beneficial and safe.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all class and program participants during youth and/or adult classes.
Requirements
  • Experience teaching swim classes. Must be comfortable with teaching all age groups.
  • Lifeguard/CPR/AED required. Will be required to take on lifeguarding shifts.
  • Must comply with all safety protocols including those regarding precautions for COVID-19
  • Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations to assure the safety of all swimmers.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.

Weekdays from 3:30-6:30p and Saturdays from 9a-12p

Water Exercise Instructor

The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking an experienced Water Exercise Instructor to join our team. In this position:

  • You will provide a challenging exercise routine in either deep or shallow water that utilizes all major muscle groups in the body and challenges the cardiovascular system.
  • You will instruct the water exercise class in accordance with course description and curriculum goals established by Aquatics Director.
  • Instruct each class participant in a way that he/she understands the class format and is exercising in a manner that is both beneficial and safe.
Qualifications
  • Experience teaching water exercise classes
  • First Aid and CPR required. Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aide effectively
  • Lifeguard Certification preferred
Hours

Our current need is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am -11am (two 45-minute classes) with extra hours as a substitute available.

Temporary Marketing Director, P/T
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking a temporary Marketing Director to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible to:

  1. Designs, writes, and edits promotional materials for print, web and social media including newsletters, letters, flyers, direct mail pieces and e-mail promoting programs, events, fundraising, etc..
  2. Updates website to reflect current programming and events.
  3. Works with marketing team to develop and implement marketing strategies and produce promotional materials.
  4. Works with marketing team to assure adequate photography of all Connection programs and activities.
  5. Coordinates promotional and art displays throughout Connection facility.
  6. Works with outside printer and addressing company to assure accurate quality and quantities of printed material.
  7. Works with Program Directors to communicate pertinent information to members.
  8. Writes feature articles for local online media.
  9. Packs promotional materials for community events and serves as a Connection representative at events.
  10. Creates vector files to order shirts for staff and members.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in the following programs is required: Microsoft office, Google Forms, Google Docs, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and Mailchimp.
  • A willingness to learn Daxko operating system is necessary.
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and product quality results on time with attention to detail.

Grant Writer, P/T
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking a part time Grants Writer.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the application, acknowledgement, utilization, record keeping and reporting of all county, state, federal and private grants.
  • Researches, identifies and establishes new sources for grant funding from government agencies, foundations, and corporations to meet the financial and operational needs of the organization.
  • Performs functions of financial administration and reporting to include preparation and timely submission of grant applications and reports, development and adjustment of associated budgets, monitoring requests for expenditures and ensuring the timely application for reimbursement.

Member Services Supervisor, F/T 
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ is seeking a reliable 
full time Member Services Supervisor. You will be responsible for management of the Front Desk and staff.

Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for hiring, supervision, training and review of all Front Desk personnel, assuring that desk operation is staffed adequately during designated hours of operation. Schedules regular staff training and staff meetings to assure quality service to members.
  2. Assists members with program registration and any changes that are necessary. Responsible for input of program registrations and other work data. 
  3. Runs aging reports for all departments. Responsible for reconciling members accounts. Works with members on past due accounts. Contacts members by email, phone and letter to resolve balance on account.
  4. Assures proper handling of financial transactions from a security standpoint. Responsible for daily reconciliation of Front Desk transactions.
  5. Works with other management staff to assure that current information on all Connection programs and activities is available to Front Desk for dissemination to public.
Qualifications
  • Supervisory and customer service experience is required. Previous/current work in a non-profit or fitness center environment is preferred.
  • The Connection uses Daxko operations membership management software. Knowledge of the software is not required but the willingness and ability to learn it is.
Hours

This is a full time, 40 hour per week position, primarily Monday through Friday but a flexible schedule is required.

Front Desk
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ is seeking a reliable part time Member Services Representative. As a part of the member services team, you will work as registrar, cashier and receptionist while providing excellent customer service. You will provide information to members, volunteers and the public on The Connection activities and programs.

Qualifications
  • Customer service experience is required. Previous/current work in a non-profit or fitness center environment is preferred.
  • The Connection uses Daxko operations membership management software. Knowledge of the software is not required but the willingness and ability to learn it is.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly desirable
  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, must be able to get up and walk from the front desk to the outside of the facility and to remain standing outside as required (as much as 15 minutes at a time) numerous times during a shift to conduct health screenings

Bus Driver

The Connection, a leading community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ is seeking a part-time school bus driver. In this role, you will transport children to and from local schools during the school year.

Qualifications
  • CDL license with Passenger and School bus endorsements. Will consider applicants who do not have P & S endorsements and will assist in obtaining them.
  • 5 year clean Drivers abstract
  • Valid DOT medical card and physical
  • All applicants for bus driver positions with The Connection are subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol tests.
Hours

The position available is part-time following the Summit school district calendar:

  • Morning hours are M-F, 7:30am – 9:00am
  • Afternoon hours are M-F, 2:30pm – 4:00pm

We will consider hiring for only one of the two shifts available

Gymnastics Coach
Looking for professional, mature, positive, energetic, and reliable coaches/instructors to join our growing program.  Must work well with other staff members in a team environment. Our program is delivered in a positive and progressive environment. We provide an opportunity for gymnasts of all levels to learn and to develop life skills that will be with them when they leave the gym. 

Opportunity to coach USAG levels 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, Xcel Gold, Platinum and Diamond. Depending on interest, experience, knowledge and availability, coaching responsibilities are available as an assistant or in a lead role to continue developing excellence and team growth for all levels. Additional hours are available in the class program.

Responsibilities, experience and background requirements may include but are not limited to:
  • Commitment to providing a safe positive environment for all participants.
  • Coaching recreational teams (Xcel), pre team, and competitive development program teams.
  • Working knowledge of USAG compulsory levels 3-5, and optional levels 6-7, Xcel program Silver-Diamond.
  • Coaching experience that demonstrates instruction using correct technique and excellence in execution.
  • Knowledge and ability to teach safe progression from basic to advanced level skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to teach drills that reinforce good technique and execution.
  • Understanding of safe and effective strength, conditioning and flexibility.

The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking an experienced and responsible After School Program Assistant. The ideal candidate has experience supervising groups of elementary-aged youth and planning engaging activities. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the management of the program and building strong relationships with parents and families.
Qualifications

  • Experience working with groups elementary-aged children;

Youth Specialty Programs Director
The Connection, a community-based non-profit in Summit, NJ is looking for an experienced and creative part-time Youth Specialty Programs Director. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and management of all parent/child, preschool, and school-age youth programming.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Supervises, manages, and develops all youth specialty classes and programs such as sports and fitness, cooking, art, music, STEM-based classes, and birthday parties.
  • Assists with recruitment and then trains and supervises staff for youth specialty programs and birthday parties.
  • Serves as an instructor for designated youth programs and fills in when necessary to ensure the continuation of all programs.
  • Acts as an instructor an average of 45% of the time including possible off-site locations, or during school break sessions and camp.

Dance and beginner through intermediate tumbling teaching experience is required. Additional training will be provided to the right candidate.

Qualifications

  • Instruction experience in beginner to advanced level gymnastics and Warrior Challenge classes.
