Lifeguard

The Connection in Summit, NJ, is seeking Lifeguards to join our team this summer. In this position you will work with the children and:

  • You will monitor swimming areas and provide assistance and protection to users of the pool and aquatic facility.
  • You will ensure the safety of patrons of the aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies as a lifeguard.
  • You will supervise and guard the pool and aquatic facility and ensure participants adhere to all Connection aquatic guidelines and procedures.
  • Present professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
Requirements
  • Lifeguard Certification
  • First Aid and CPR certified
  • Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.
Hours

Monday – Friday: 7am – 8pm

Saturday and Sunday: 7am – 1pm

Compensation

$16.00 per hour

Swim Instructor

The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking experienced swim instructors to join our team. In this position:

  • You will be responsible for teaching safe pool and water practices to each student while instructing swimming skills and techniques in a manner which is both beneficial and safe.
  • You will ensure the safety and well-being of all class and program participants during youth and/or adult classes.
Requirements
  • Experience teaching swim classes. Must be comfortable with teaching all age groups.
  • Lifeguard/CPR/AED required.
  • Will be required to take on lifeguarding shifts.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.
Hours

Weekdays from 3:30pm-6:30pm and Saturdays from 9am-12pm

Water Exercise Instructor

The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking an experienced Water Exercise Instructor to join our team. In this position:

  • You will provide a challenging exercise routine in either deep or shallow water that utilizes all major muscle groups in the body and challenges the cardiovascular system.
  • You will instruct the water exercise class in accordance with course description and curriculum goals established by Aquatics Director.
  • Instruct each class participant in a way that he/she understands the class format and is exercising in a manner that is both beneficial and safe.
Qualifications
  • Experience teaching water exercise classes
  • First Aid and CPR required. Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aide effectively
  • Lifeguard Certification preferred
Hours

Our current need is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am -11am (two 45-minute classes) with extra hours as a substitute available.

Human Resources Director
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking a Full-Time Human Resources Director to join our team. This position is on-site at The Connection in Summit, NJ.

The Human Resources Director will run the daily functions of a one-person Human Resources department handling all human resources responsibilities including but not limited to recruitment, hiring, onboarding, job descriptions, payroll, benefits, file management, and unemployment while ensuring legal compliance of policies and practices.

Duties also include DEIB, retention, and continuing education initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field, or a combination of education and a minimum of three years of human resource management experience with a proven track record of success.
  • Prior experience in a nonprofit organization is preferred.
  • Knowledge of state, and federal labor laws
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information is essential.
  • Advanced computer skills including competency in Excel and Power Point. Must have the ability and willingness to learn new operating systems.
  • Often required to sit and work at desk/computer for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or related office equipment.

Fundraising and Development Associate
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking a Full-Time Fundraising and Development Associate to join our team. This position is on-site at The Connection in Summit, NJ. In this role you will be responsible for assisting the Associate Executive Director in fundraising and volunteer initiatives.

Responsibilities include creating and coordinating the back-office processes, systems and reporting for The Connection’s fundraising efforts.

Specific duties

  • Maintaining the database; Producing gift reports and other financial, analytical, statistical and demographic reports.
  • Handling all logistics for email and mail solicitations.
  • Entering and processing all gifts into database and managing the acknowledgement process.
  • Providing office support for development functions and events.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training
  • 1-3 years fundraising experience

Gymnastics/Tumbling/Warrior Instructor, Part Time
The Connection Gymnastics and the Summit Summies Team located in Summit, NJ is looking for professional, mature, positive, energetic, and reliable Instructors to join our growing program. Our program is delivered in a positive and progressive environment. We provide an opportunity for gymnasts of all levels to learn and to develop life skills that will be with them when they leave the gym.

Recreational class instructors needed for weekday mornings, early afternoons, after school, weekend, preschool and school age girls’ gymnastics, tumbling and warrior classes. Flexible scheduling is available.

Responsibilities
  • Teach recreational level gymnastics, tumbling or warrior classes.
  • Must be able to manage groups of children with enthusiastic and positive interaction.
  • Knowledge and ability to understand safety in skill progression.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
  • Must work well with other staff members in a team environment.
Preferred (not required) consideration for:
  • Teaching experience is preferred but will train people with an interest or background in sport, fitness or
    dance.
  • Experience with gymnastics, tumbling or warrior activities.
  • Degree, education or training in sports, fitness, dance or movement.
  • CPR certified
Hours
Flexible scheduling, but consistent commitment to assigned days and hours for each 10-week session.

Break Dance Teacher
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is searching for highly motivated and enthusiastic Break Dance Teacher. In this role, you will:

  • Instruct program class in accordance with course description and curriculum using proper terminology and accurate verbal and physical representation.
  • Create a fun and safe learning environment for the students.
  • Be responsible for being prepared for each class with appropriate instructional materials.
  • Make recommendations regarding ordering of any equipment and/or supplies needed as well as in the design and content of new and current classes.
Qualifications
  • Break dancing experience is required.
  • Teaching experience is recommended.
  • Experience working with children is preferred.
Hours

Currently, we are offering one class per week (one hour per class). Classes are scheduled late afternoon/evening or weekends. Opportunity to sub other youth classes available.

Dance Instructor
The Connection is looking for a dance instructor for preschool and school age classes. In this position, you will be responsible for providing a fun and effective class to members participating in the program. You will teach a dynamic program using the fundamentals of dance.

Requirements
Previous teaching experience. Additional training will be provided to the right candidate.

Currently recruiting for substitute instructors. Additional hours may be available as we add classes to our schedule.

The Connection’s summer camp is committed to providing campers with excellent recreational, educational, and fun experiences while creating a memorable summer in a physically and emotionally safe environment.  Campers will make friends, gain self-confidence, learn to work together, and acquire new knowledge and experiences.

Camp Dates: June 26, 2023 – August 25, 2023

As a camp counselor or CIT, you can opt to work a half day - mornings or afternoons, or a full day.

  • Morning camps run 8:30am -l:30pm
  • Afternoon camps run 12:15pm - 4:45pm
  • All day option is 8:30am-4:45pm

Camp Counselor

  • You will be responsible for leading an assigned group of children enrolled in the summer camp program. You will ensure each camper has a fun experience in a physically and emotionally safe environment. You will be provided with training and sample camp activities. 
  • Age Requirement: 16-17 years (limited number hired) and 18+ years
  • We ask for a 6-week minimum commitment from summer camp staff

ESL Volunteers
The Connection is seeking friendly volunteers to teach English as a Second Language to non-English-speaking adults at The Connection. No prior experience needed, and training and resources provided. This is an excellent way to give back to our community and meet wonderful people from around the world. Minimum time commitment is 2 hours a week.
