Lifeguard

NEW RATE OF $16.00 PER HOUR

The Connection in Summit, NJ, is seeking Lifeguards to join our team this summer. In this position you will work with the children in our summer camp program and:

  • You will monitor swimming areas and provides assistance and protection to users of the pool and aquatic facility
  • You will ensure the safety of patrons of the aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies as a lifeguard.
  • You will supervise and guard the pool and aquatic facility and ensure participants adhere to all Connection aquatic guidelines and procedures.
  • Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
Requirements
  • Lifeguard Certification.
  • First Aid and CPR certified.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aide effectively.
Hours

Monday – Friday: 7am – 8pm

Saturday and Sunday: 7am – 1pm

Compensation

New rate of $16.00 per hour

Swim Instructor

The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking experienced swim instructors to join our team. In this position:

  • You will be responsible for teaching safe pool and water practices to each student while instructing swimming skills and techniques in a manner which is both beneficial and safe.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all class and program participants during youth and/or adult classes.
Requirements
  • Experience teaching swim classes. Must be comfortable with teaching all age groups.
  • Lifeguard/CPR/AED required. Will be required to take on lifeguarding shifts.
  • Must comply with all safety protocols including those regarding precautions for COVID-19
  • Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations to assure the safety of all swimmers.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.
Hours

Weekdays from 3:30-6:30p and Saturdays from 9a-12p

Compensation
  • Competitive compensation offered starting at $16.00 per hour.

Water Exercise Instructor

The Connection in Summit, NJ, known for its excellent aquatic programs, is seeking an experienced Water Exercise Instructor to join our team. In this position:

  • You will provide a challenging exercise routine in either deep or shallow water that utilizes all major muscle groups in the body and challenges the cardiovascular system.
  • You will instruct the water exercise class in accordance with course description and curriculum goals established by Aquatics Director.
  • Instruct each class participant in a way that he/she understands the class format and is exercising in a manner that is both beneficial and safe.
Qualifications
  • Experience teaching water exercise classes
  • First Aid and CPR required. Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aide effectively
  • Lifeguard Certification preferred
Hours

Our current need is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am -11am (two 45-minute classes) with extra hours as a substitute available.

Bus Driver
The Connection, a leading community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ is seeking a part time school bus driver. In this role, you will transport children to and from local schools during the school year.

Qualifications

  • CDL license with Passenger and School bus endorsements.
  • 5 year clean Drivers abstract
  • Valid DOT medical card and physical
  • All applicants for bus driver positions with The Connection are subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol tests.
Hours
  • Position available is part time following the Summit school district calendar:
    Morning hours are M-F 7:30am – 9:00am
    Afternoon hours are M-F 2:30pm – 4:00pm
  • We will consider hiring for only one of the two shifts available
Compensation
  • $50.00 per hour with a 2 hour guarantee

Full-Time Development and Fundraising Associate
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking a Full-Time Development and Fundraising Associate to join our team. This position is on-site at The Connection in Summit, NJ. In this role you will be responsible for assisting the Associate Executive Director in fundraising and volunteer initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and coordinating the back office processes, systems and reporting for The Connection’s fundraising efforts.
  • Maintaining the database; Producing gift reports and other financial, analytical, statistical and demographic reports.
  • Handling all logistics for email and mail solicitations.
  • Entering and processing all gifts into database and managing the acknowledgement process.
  • Providing office support for development functions and events.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training
  • 1-3 years fundraising experience.

Custodian, Part-Time
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking a Part-Time Custodian to join our team.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

            • Responsible for maintenance and cleanliness of total building. This includes sweeping, dry or wet mopping, trash removal, cleaning of men/women’s rooms, etc.
            • Sets up class and meeting rooms (tables, chairs, blackboards, audio/visual, etc.). Reports any problem that may have occurred to the Director of Operations and Facilities Management.
            • Maintains adequate supplies of supplies (electrical, papers, cleaning, etc.) required, reporting to Director of Operations and Facilities Management the need for replacement of supplies.
            • Reports to Director of Operations and Facilities Management anything needing repair and makes minor repairs.
            • Possess a working knowledge of general cleaning operations and methods, cleaning equipment and cleaning chemicals and their safe application as stated on product labeling.
            • Possess a basic knowledge of facility maintenance (i.e. light painting, light plumbing, changing lights, etc.).
            • Demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and complete assignments with minimum supervision.
            • Possess knowledge of and demonstrate safe work practices such as preventing trip hazards, correct ladder use in changing light bulbs and cleaning windows, proper warning of wet or waxed floors, etc.
            • Demonstrates an aptitude and desire to continually improve facility janitorial tasks to reduce costs while keeping the facility clean
            • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
            • Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds; may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials.
            • This position requires work to be performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, in both hot and cold temperature
            • The position also requires the employee to be on his/her feet for extended periods.

After School Program Director
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking an an experienced and responsible After School Program Director. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and management of The Connection After School Program located on-site at a Summit school or at The Connection.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a 5 day after school program (2:45pm – 6:00pm) that supports The Connection’s mission and commitment to families.
  • Train, supervise, and support part-time Program Assistants, fill sub assignments for the site when necessary.
  • Create a daily schedule that includes homework help, free time, enrichment, and other activities.
  • Maintains communication with parents of student regarding child’s progress and/or any issues.
  • Attends workshops and trainings to meet licensing requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Teaching, Social Work or related field is preferred.
  • Experience managing part time support staff.
  • Background in planning fun, engaging activities for elementary aged youth.
  • Fun, active, and creative mindset toward working with children.
  • CPR certification – required within the first three months of employment.

Monday – Friday 2:45pm – 6:00pm while school is in session (10 months), following the Summit Public Schools calendar.

After School Program Assistant
The Connection, a community-based nonprofit organization in Summit, NJ, is seeking an After School Program Assistant to join our team. This position is on-site at The Connection in Summit, NJ. In this role, you will assist with the management of the after school program.

Responsibilities

  • Working alongside the After School Director, helps manage a 5 day after school program (2:45PM – 6:00PM).
  • Uses positive behavior management strategies to support continued engagement of youth.
  • Assists with daily schedule that includes homework help, free time, enrichment, and other activities as directed.
  • Assists with the supervision of participants. This includes working one on one to provide assistance with an activity.
  • Serves as a substitute bus aide and assists in the safe transportation of children enrolled in The Connection program.
  • Attends training as required.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with groups of elementary-aged children.
  • Experience helping children with tasks, such as homework.
  • Fun, active, and creative mindset toward working with children.
  • Ability to commit to a routine schedule with punctuality.
  • CPR certification – required within the first three months of employment.

Gymnastics Coach/Instructor

The Connection Gymnastics and the Summit Summies Team located in Summit, NJ is looking for professional, mature, positive, energetic, and reliable coaches/instructors to join our growing program. Must work well with other staff members in a team environment. Our program is delivered in a positive and progressive environment. We provide an opportunity for gymnasts of all levels to learn and to develop life skills that will be with them when they leave the gym.

  • Recreational class instructors needed for preschool and school age girls gymnastics and warrior classes weekdays and weekends. 
  • Competitive Team coaches needed for pre team and USAG levels 3-7 and Xcel programs.
Responsibilities
            • Commitment to providing a safe positive environment for all participants.
            • Coaching recreational teams (Xcel), pre team, and competitive development program teams.
            • Working knowledge of USAG compulsory levels 3-5, and optional levels 6-7, Xcel programs. 
            • Coaching and teaching experience that demonstrates instruction using correct technique and excellence in execution.
            • Knowledge and ability to teach safe progression from basic to advanced level skills.
            • Knowledge and ability to teach drills that reinforce good technique and execution.
            • Understanding of safe and effective strength, conditioning and flexibility.
            • Understanding of seasonal training approaches and techniques.
            • Basic understanding and ability to spot skills.
            • Ability to use computer for administrative duties.
            • Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
Preferred (not required) consideration for:

 

            • Degree or education in related field
            • USAG Membership, safety certification, U100, SafeSport, background check.

The Connection is looking for a dance instructor for preschool and school age classes. In this position, you will be responsible for providing a fun and effective class to members participating in the program. You will teach a dynamic program using the fundamentals of dance.

Requirements
Previous teaching experience. Additional training will be provided to the right candidate.
Hours

Currently recruiting for substitute instructors. Additional hours may be available as we add classes to our schedule.

Acro/Tumbling Teacher
The Connection is looking for an Acro-Tumbling teacher to join our program. In this position, you will be responsible for providing a fun and effective class to members participating in the program. You will teach a dynamic program using the fundamentals of dance and tumbling.

Requirements
Dance and beginner through intermediate tumbling teaching experience is required. Additional training will be provided to the right candidate.
Hours
2-3 hours per week including weekends

ESL Volunteers
The Connection is seeking friendly volunteers to teach English as a Second Language to non-English-speaking adults at The Connection. No prior experience needed, and training and resources provided. This is an excellent way to give back to our community and meet wonderful people from around the world. Minimum time commitment is 2 hours a week.
